There are so many reasons for leuconychia. Nail paleness can be triggered by mild trauma to the nail. At times the nail paleness may be due disease such as hypoalbuminaemia chronic liver disease. Here the total nail will be pale, only the top portion of the nail will retain its original pink color. The nails of the thumb and the index fingers are most affected.
The reason for the paleness is yet to be ascertained. Some feel it may be due to the compression caused by the extra cellular fluid. Leoconychia is not only noticed in liver diseases but also noticed renal diseases, lymphoma, and fungal diseases. In some case the leuconychia can be congenital also. Let us discuss about the other causes of nail paleness here
